Trick or Treat? YOU Get to Choose.

Happy Halloween.

I’m going to keep this short, sweet and totally actionable.

I know you think those tiny bags of candy and tiny chocolate bars are calling you by name.  Except they’re not.  You do not have to overeat on Halloween candy this year. It has no control over you.

Instead of thinking, Crap. It’s Halloween. I’m going to eat a ton of candy. Think about how you want to feel when you go to bed tonight. Do you want to feel stuffed to the brim on mini chocolate bars and skittles?

OR

Do you want to feel in control, empowered, like you actually enjoyed Halloween this year instead of being scared of it?

If you prefer the later option, here’s what to do…

-Decide how you want to feel when you go to bed tonight. Choose 3 words. Here are some ideas: empowered, healthy, controlled, focused, effective, attentive, gorgeous, exquisite, fabulous, radiant, grateful, fulfilled, satisfied, sexy…write them down.  It’s always a good idea to get stuff down on paper.

-Decide how much candy you will eat. What quantity of candy will enable you to feel how you want to feel at bedtime tonight?  Decide right now how much you want to eat.  Eat less when the time comes-if you want-but don’t eat more.

-Eat only what you really love. No settling for the crappy castaways…like those strange caramel-flavoured candies in those thin, orange wrappers. No one even likes those. While your kiddos are sorting their candy, tell them Momma is gonna take a bit of the good stuff for herself.  Take the quantity you decided upon and choose only the candy you will actually enjoy.

-Don’t eat in secret. Who are you hiding from anyway?  There is no shame in eating some Halloween candy.  Most of us are going to do it.  But this year, let’s do it with intention.  Sit down with your kids, do not shy away from their candy mountains.  Candy has no power over you.

-Allow yourself to enjoy the candy.  Do not beat yourself up. Enjoy each bite, and enjoy this time with your kids.  Keep your commitment to yourself.  Remind yourself of how you want to feel when you go to bed tonight.

BONUS POINTS!!! Don’t settle for any of your kids Halloween candy.  Go out and treat yourself to a beautiful, expensive chocolate bar. Why?  You’re worth it.  Decide how much to eat.  Enjoy every bite.  Enjoy treating yourself to something better.

Don’t trick yourself into thinking you’re the mercy of crappy Halloween candy. Treat yourself to feeling well before bed tonight.
