Let’s be real. Sometimes I’m dying to binge.
The urges to binge still come. And it’s OK.
Stick with me so I can give you some super duper help on dealing with binge urges.
BIG FAT AHA MOMENT: even when you’ve mastered dealing with binge urges, they will still come.
But first, lemme explain what happened.
My husband and I have a rental property that our renters finally moved out of.
We went to check out the place on Sunday night.
It was a sad mess (understatement of the year).
We will have to work really hard for a while to get the place up and running and ready to sell.
And driving home from the sad-mess rental, guess what happened?
I started thinking about the ice cream in the freezer.
How “great” it would be to get the kids to bed, sit back, eat a pint of Hagen Daaz and watch Downton Abbey.
“Allow” myself to sleep in Monday morning, not walk Derek the Daschund, and just lay in bed.
See, Sister these are the things that an unquestioned mind lies to you about…
That it would be so comforting to eat away your problems and zone out with rich people who live in an Abbey.
BUT. Eating does not solve problems, nor does it provide true, authentic comfort…
If hunger ain’t the problem, food ain’t the solution.
REALITY CHECK: I was not hungry, I just didn’t want to face my problem; the sad-mess rental.
Had I binged I’d have been left with the exact same problem (the sad-mess rental) AND a bloated belly AND a carb hangover head.
And let’s not forget to mention the guilt and shame that accompanies binges.
So here’s what I want you to take away today, Dearest.
If you’re at the beginning, middle or end of your path on dealing with the urge to over eat/emotional eat/binge eat…
The urges will still come.
They may not come as often, but expect them to come.
Here are a couple of questions that, if you just take a beat to think about, they will help. Immensely.
- What problem am I trying to avoid?
- How will eating right now solve this problem?
- How do I want to feel in an hour?
Tape these questions onto the fridge, put them in your phone, write a note in your agenda.
Do what you need to do to remember them.
They will help you, just as they helped me the other night.
You have a couple of options to move forward on your journey today.
Do what suits your best!
